Cheers to 5 Years REV Studios

It is hard to believe we are celebrating our 5th anniversary at REV Studios…really.

Like most of my crazy ideas, this one wasn’t something I had planned.

Almost six years ago, Mark and I went for a walk in our neighborhood and came across a 40-year-old building with a vacancy on the first floor. It once was home to a cabinet shop. The inside was crusty, dirty, had about a half inch of wood glue all over the floor, and a single bathroom barely wide enough to fit Mark’s large frame.

It was messy, yes, but on the flip side, I loved the grey brick exterior, and with its tall ceilings and large open room, I could really see its potential for something special. Plus, having a location just four blocks from the ocean isn’t something you come across every day.

It took us time to build out the space – including putting in an oversized bathroom, a new kitchen, updated lighting, lots of paint, hiring a company to build a cyclorama wall and investing in photo and video equipment. Thankfully, all our employees were up for pitching in, and the space was transformed into REV Studios.

As soon as we were ready to hit the ground running with marketing our new, beautiful studio, we were stopped in our tracks by the pandemic. This was not a part of my non-plan plan. Ugh.

We limped along, trying to make the best of it. We even created an in-house show called “Going2Health.” The concept was great: three upbeat people asking medical experts real questions about interesting health topics. Like anything you try for the first time, there was room for improvement, but we did it. During a pandemic. We even screened a one-hour special at the “fancy-pants” The Lot theater in La Jolla.

It was really amazing, but it wasn’t going to pay the rent.

Thankfully, once the pandemic started to ease up, REV Studio began to generate traction and became recognized as a world-class photo and video production studio. We have welcomed clients from all over the world. People and brands that I’m even a bit star-struck by have been through these doors. (Sadly, I couldn’t be in the studio for the shoot with Alicia Keys, but Mark tells me she was really nice.)

It has been an incredible journey filled with creativity, innovation, and countless memorable projects. We are immensely grateful to everyone who has been a part of this journey, from our talented team members to our loyal clients and partners.

Cheers to five!
